Graston Technique® and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization or IASTM refers to a new range of tools which practitioners can use to locate and treat soft tissue dysfunction in their patients. Ergonomically designed instruments can zero in on and treat "tight" muscles (fascial restrictions) or areas exhibiting chronic inflammation, soft tissue fibrosis or degeneration. IASTM is rapidly growing in popularity due to its effectiveness and efficiency while remaining non-invasive.

The Graston Technique is an innovative, specifically patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The non-invasive technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments  to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Graston Technique has become standard protocol in universities and hospital-based outpatient facilities, as well as industrial on-site treatment settings such as Indiana University and the University of Michigan. The technique is also being used at industrial settings and by NBA, NHL, NFL and Major League Baseball trainers. Studies have shown Graston Technique to have had positive outcomes in 75% to 90% of all conditions treated. It is equally effective in restoring function to acute and chronic injuries, and pre- and postsurgical patients.
